Car insurance in Louisianais expensive — that's the unavoidable baseline. But what if your actual driving behavior could earn you real savings on top of every other discount you qualify for? That's the premise behind Allstate's Drivewise program, and for safe drivers in Baton Rouge and across Louisiana, it represents a genuine opportunity to lower what you pay based on how you actually drive rather than just your history.

Drivewise® General Information
What is Drivewise?Drivewise is the centerpiece of a contemporary auto product that provides the customized experience customers expect. It gives customers individualized driving feedback, rewards for safe driving, and value-added service options. Drivewise is much more than just a discount — it transforms our auto customers' relationship with Allstate.
Why does Allstate offer Drivewise? Drivewise personalizes the auto experience by helping customers focus on safety and rewarding their safe driving.
How does Drivewise identify and reward safe driving? Drivewise automatically detects when trips occur and collects driving information such as speed, braking behaviors, and time of day. Safe driving behaviors translate into rewards.
All new enrollees who add Drivewise to their auto policy will:
- Receive an enrollment reward after their first trip.
- Have the opportunity to receive a performance reward every six months thereafter based on safe driving behaviors.
- Performance rewards are redeemable as policy credit.
*May vary by state.
What Counts as Safe Driving?
- Safe speed — under 80 mph; Drivewise compares miles driven under 80 mph against miles driven at or above 80 mph.
- Safe stops — limited hard braking. Hard braking is slowing 8–10 mph within one second; extreme braking is slowing 10+ mph within one second.
- Safe time of day — lowest risk: 5 a.m.–11 p.m. weekends; low risk: 4 a.m.–12 p.m. weekdays; moderate risk: 12 p.m.–11 p.m. weekdays; high risk: 11 p.m.–4 a.m. weekdays and 11 p.m.–5 a.m. weekends.
- Enroll every driver. Performance policy credit is calculated across all qualified drivers on the policy (drivers with 50+ trips in the cycle). The more operators enrolled, the more credit the policy is eligible to earn.
- Mileage is not a factor in scoring within the app.
Driving Data — What's Collected and How It's Used
Usage of driving data varies slightly by Drivewise program. In states that offer the Drivewise mobile program, Allstate uses the collected data to provide users with performance rewards in the form of policy credits based on individual driving behavior. Allstate and its data partner, Arity LLC, may use anonymized data for research purposes. Allstate does not sell the collected data or allow it to be used by other companies. In states that offer the Drivewise mobile with rating program, Allstate uses the data to help rate a policy based on the user's driving behavior, under the same data-handling principles.
Data collection varies by program. In the mobile program, speed, hard braking, and time of day are captured and used to evaluate driving behavior. Location is captured to detect speeds and display a route map to the user only — location data is not shared. Phone activity is captured to provide awareness and encourage limiting phone use while driving. In the mobile with rating program, speed, hard braking, time of day, and phone activity are captured for both feedback and rating (phone activity is not used for scoring in Michigan or New York).
Enrollment and Earnings
Enrollment is straightforward. When you have an Allstate policy through The Root Agency, your agent will walk you through Drivewise enrollment as part of your policy setup or review. You'll download the Allstate app, complete the enrollment steps, and the program activates automatically. If you're already an Allstate customer through The Root Agency and aren't enrolled, call (225) 926-0160— we'll get you enrolled in a few minutes and you can start earning rewards immediately.
You can engage with Drivewise as:
- An Allstate auto policyholder with Drivewise on their auto policy.
- An Allstate policyholder not eligible for Drivewise on their auto policy, using the “Try it Out” version.
- A consumer interested in Drivewise by downloading The Allstate app and creating a “Drivewise Only” account.
Customer enrollment is easy via the Allstate app. Each enrolled driver must:
- Download The Allstate app.
- Log in with an existing My Account ID (named insured) or use the activation code emailed to them (non-named insured).
- Activate Drivewise within the app.
- Accept the Drivewise Terms of Service and enable Location Services.
How Rewards Work
Safe driving behaviors translate into rewards. Customers who participate in Drivewise can earn:
- An enrollment reward after the first trip.
- Performance rewards every six months based on safe driving behaviors by any enrolled driver.
- Performance rewards redeemable as policy credit.
Initial enrollment reward is distributed after one trip has been recorded by any enrolled driver. For customers enrolled prior to their effective date, the first trip on or after the effective date triggers the reward.
Qualified drivers are those enrolled in Drivewise who complete at least 50 trips per six-month performance cycle. At the end of six months, the driving performance for the policy is calculated using the trips of all qualified drivers captured by the app. At least one operator on the policy must complete a minimum of 50 trips within the performance cycle to continue earning performance rewards every six months.
To maximize policy credit: enroll all drivers on the policy, maintain safe speeds (under 80 mph), make safe stops (limited hard braking), and drive during safe times of day (avoid late-night trips).
If no operator completes 50 trips within the first six-month performance cycle, the policy will not qualify for a performance policy credit for that cycle and a new cycle begins. The Adjusted Account Premium to date is used to calculate the initial enrollment reward.
Unenrolling poor drivers doesn't improve performance rewards — performance rewards are calculated at the policy level, so any driver not enrolled in Drivewise contributes 0% toward the overall reward. The initial enrollment reward is awarded only once for the life of a policy; a re-enrolled policy is eligible only for subsequent performance rewards.
The Drivewise Experience Inside the Allstate App
The app automatically detects a trip is occurring when:
- The phone is on, adequately charged (at least 25% battery), and location services are enabled, and
- A vehicle travels at least 20 mph for at least three minutes and 300 meters.
No action is necessary on the customer's part to capture a trip — even with the app closed in the background, it will detect trips. Because a mobile phone follows an operator rather than a specific vehicle, there's a chance the app could record duplicate or passenger trips. Participants can re-classify trips at any time via the My Trips screen with a quick tap — re-classified trips don't count toward the driving record or impact performance policy credit. If the app detects a duplicate trip for two operators on a single policy, only one trip is counted toward the policy's performance score (assigned to the driver with fewer total trips in the period).
Drivewise consumes similar levels of battery as other navigational apps; Allstate recommends keeping the phone plugged in while driving. The app is designed to use minimal data — about 6 KB per trip, uploaded at the end of each trip via Wi-Fi or cellular. Switching phones simply requires downloading the Allstate app, signing in (or entering a fresh activation code), and reactivating Drivewise to continue earning rewards.
Customer Privacy
Location services allow the app to detect driving speeds in order to report driving performance to the user and calculate performance rewards. The trip route map is viewable only by the user. The app collects information that enables calculation of safe driving behaviors associated with speed, braking, and driving time of day. The trip route map is not available to people servicing the policy. Information used to evaluate driving performance (speed, braking, time of day) is viewable by the policyholder, the Allstate agent, and customer service representatives who help service the policy.
